3 weeks

This is my three week old baby:

He is spending more and more time awake... and I'm having to try to remember what a person does with a baby that doesn't move or play. Good thing this one is cute too!

Birthday

The boy turned 2!

And was scared of the fire. He clung very close to mom and she had to blow out the candle for him. 

Auntie Tara and Uncle Mike came up to help us celebrate the occasion. They brought the two-year-old a drum. That we have discovered can be played VERY loud when the strings are no longer attached to the drum.

Grandma Cherie made the boy an apron. Now he can help mom in the kitchen and dad in the garage without getting dirty. Right. Moving on...

Auntie Laura came over for the party too! She brought Lane some practice golf balls (mini wiffle balls). We are now working on aiming and catching.

And Dad got his boy some tractors.

Which apparently are only good for being tipped over by Mater and McQueen.

Guitar

Grandpa Dennis and Auntie Amy came up on the weekend to meet Avery and to take Grandma Cherie home. Lane was quite excited to have MORE people to play with and entertain but the highlight of Grandpa's visit was the guitar. For a while now Lane has been using all sorts of toys as a guitar - tupperware containers, serving platters, sticks, whatever he can get his hands on and apply his imagination to. No more. Grandpa Dennis fixed him up with a guitar that resembles Daddy's guitar.

The kid was stoked.

It has a neck for his fingers to grasp and body that he can strum on. Just like daddy!

The guitar makes its way into every conversation and has even made it into bed with the kid. Now, if we could just figure out why he insists on wearing the hat while playing the darn thing...

One week old

My baby was a week old on Friday.

He is still a pretty content baby that likes to eat and sleep. A lot. But not necessarily when it is the most convenient for mom.

But we're surviving.

And enjoying every minute of it.

The waiting is over

Avery Scott Calloway joined our family at 11:10 am, March 4, 2011. Weighing 8 lbs, 4 oz with dark hair and long fingers and toes his delivery was much shorter and more intense than the last one. No drugs and no stitches. I'm pretty happy with how it went.

Jamie brought Lane to the hospital to meet Avery and see me. He wasn't too sure what to think. Not of Avery, but of me. I sort of understood and then I saw the picture below and really understood. Mom just didn't quite look like mom. You'll be happy to know that he happily greeted me when I came home yesterday.

We still have trim and finishing touches to do, not to mention flooring, but it feels like a finished room compared to how it has been for the last 2 1/2 years. Regardless, the kid doesn't seem to mind:
