This 'n That

Lane has been perfecting the art of throwing a ball. And he's doing pretty good at it. Although he is fairly particular about where you are supposed to stand to catch it and where he is supposed to sit or stand to throw from. About 50% of the time he gets the ball where he wants it - and about 50% of the time his dad manages to catch it. Regardless of the outcome, it is a fun game to watch.

We found a wooden train set at a garage sale last summer. It has been sitting in a box  in our garage since then. We finally dug it out when we went out to the cabin for our anniversary in September. It was the one inside toy we took along with us and wow, did it do the trick. He loves playing with it (when he isn't distracted by one of his many other toys). He is starting to catch on to how the track fits together and Auntie Laura has taught him the appropriate sound to make while running the train on the track. Don't tell Lane, but he has some additional train pieces waiting for him at Christmas.

So wearing the headphones isn't new but wearing the "Daddy's Little Helper" apron is. The kid loves it. He wore it to bed the other day. And had to wear it out to when he and his dad came to pick me up the other day. His obsession with it is slightly humorous... and really, this picture is just cute.

The newest trick in his collection is using one of his train cars to "skateboard". He saw a highschool student go down our street on a skateboard the other day and ever since he has been "skateboarding" all over the house.

Our last nice day?

Thursday of last week was a beautiful day. Well, it was a beautiful day for late October. The sun was warm, the breeze was cool and we tried to make use of every minute of it.

Our house is partly sided now. The part I see every time I do dishes looks great - the part the neighbours see when they look out their windows still looks the same. Faded house wrap. Oh well, there is always next year, I suppose.

Lane still loves being able to get outside. This particular day he ate his strawberries in front of the back door. He enjoyed sitting in that spot all summer so it was a fitting conclusion to our nice weather.

Did I say conclusion of our nice weather? After the way things looked this morning, I think it is a fair statement. I'm not sure everyone around here would agree with that sentiment but it IS the end of October. And besides, Christmas just wouldn't be the same without snow.

And so it begins

This is what we saw when we looked our window this morning:

Lane was absolutely mesmerized by the sight and had to be coaxed away from the window to eat his breakfast. His father was shocked that it snowed so quickly after we had been having such nice weather. And his mother? Well, I think there is something nice about a snow. Especially when I can stay inside my house and curl up with a cup of hot chocolate.

It continues to snow so it will be interesting to see how much we end up getting and how long it lasts. In the meantime, I think I'm going to hunt down that cup of hot chocolate.

Sunflowers

We loved the way these flowers looked in our yard this year:

So we did this:

so that we can have more next year. Apparently the boy child doesn't like to deal with prickly subjects.

Lavras, Polish, Ladoga, Prelude

Wheat.

That's what the list in the title is. Different types of wheat. In fact, they are different types of wheat that my husband grew in his garden this year. The wheat did wonderfully and was great for making the neighbours stop and scratch their heads. Fortunately, wheat isn't susceptible to blight and frost doesn't hurt it too badly so we still had wheat to harvest this fall (unlike many of our other plants). However, wheat isn't the easiest thing to harvest...

First you have to cut it. And then bundle it. And then beat the grain out of the heads. And then get rid of the chaff. That last part is the fun part. That's where you get to throw a handful of grain up in the air and let the wind blow away the unwanted parts and let the grain fall back on the ground. Just like this:

What kid wouldn't have fun helping dad with that?!

Rocking Horse

As we were looking through our garage earlier this fall, we came across a toy that we had forgotten about: Lane's rocking horse.

When we put it in the garage, he could sit on it but that was about it. He couldn't rock it, he couldn't climb up on it and he needed constant supervision because he was liable to fall off sideways. Not anymore.

The kid can climb. The kid can rock. The kid can even stand. This kid is all about the rocking horse.

Long time no see!

I have been kindly harassed by a few people suggesting that I need to put up a new blog post. Frankly, I have been having fun doing other things and haven't made the time to blog. I've been working. And planning our Moms 'n Tots programming for the year. And knitting. And plotting my next sewing project. And growing a baby. And looking after a toddler. And watching my husband side our house. See, all fun things. Oh, did I mention that I signed up to sell Usborne books, in all my free time?

That's my life in a nutshell or two... and to think I was looking forward to things slowing down this fall. That's a good laugh or two.

But really, most of you just want to see the latest pictures of my child. Well, this is the most up-to-date one I have:

Fortunately (for me) this time around I was able to see more of my ultrasound so I know what this is a picture of. It's a profile picture of my baby's head and torso! It was quite a lot of fun meeting this baby and seeing all the different parts of it. The tech wasn't rushed with the ultrasound like he was with Lane's so I got a significantly longer tour this time. It was exciting and Jamie assures me that this child is just as ugly as its older brother was.

Oh, did you stop by here to see pictures of my toddler? Hmmm... I'll have to see what I can dig up for your viewing pleasure.
