My cool dude.

For the past couple of months Lane has had an absolute fascination with my sunglasses. He would try his darndest to get those glasses away from me. It didn't matter if they were on my face or head, he wanted them. And now, thanks to Auntie Amy, he has his own!

He loves them. They entertain him in the van. They distract him while we put on his parka. They have to be pried out of his hands when we take his parka off. He falls asleep with them and somehow end up in his crib. Forget toys, it's all about the sunglasses.

Now that he can stand

The drawer is no longer a crutch to stand with but an all-out toy. There are so many fun things to bang together, throw on the floor and gnaw on. And it can all be done with 2 hands now.

Don't ask how many times my cup measures have been washed this week.

Magnet Fun

We were given a magnet toy. Lane had discovered the fridge and all that we had tacked up on it so we knew he would enjoy a magnet toy. Little did we know just how much he would like the said magnet toy.

The toy plays music whenever a button gets mashed. And I do mean mashed.

No matter the song, animal sound, or repetitive nature of the toy, he loves every minute of it.

Give a boy a box...

... and he has to figure out what to do with it...

... and it is so much fun to watch!

Playing in the Snow

It was a beautifully sunny day outside, relatively warm (-18 degrees Celsius), with very little wind. A day that doesn't happen very often in southern Saskatchewan. So my sisters and I bundled up dude and took him outside to meet winter.

He wasn't impressed with the idea. At least he wasn't impressed with getting his whole snowsuit put on, including mitts. He apparently doesn't like being bundled up, especially if he is already in a warm house. But as soon as we got that guy outside he was so .... well... excited? nonchalant? non-caring? Yep, we were excited to take him outside and put him down the slide and have him slide into the snow bank at the bottom. My child? He didn't care one sniff. In fact, I think he was bored.

So, when one is bored we turn to the entertaining world of animals:

Lane loves his puppy and the puppy never fails to produce a smile on Lane's face. Which in this instance was quite handy.

And seeing as how he seemed to be enjoying the whole outdoor experience we threw him in the sled and pulled him around the yard.

The pictures are lying. He isn't that thrilled with the sled ride; he's laughing at his puppy running through the snow and bottoming out in the snow bank.

Or maybe he really did enjoy the adventure. Either way, he wasn't impressed when we took him back inside.

Christmas Day

I have to tell you the truth. Lane's first Christmas was pretty anticlimactic. He had no idea what was going on. In fact, he napped through half of the gift-opening part of the day. But, even though he was not excited at all, he still had fun with his gifts.

My grandpa made Lane a wooden train. My grandpa loves to woodwork and each of us grandchildren has various items that he has made for us over the years. He is always looking for another project to work on so I was happy to suggest that he turn his woodworking talent to making something for Lane. We are very pleased with the result!

Lane likes the train but right now he especially likes the logs that go in one of the cars (he also likes to show off his two front teeth that are slowly coming in).

And if the toys weren't fun enough, the paper, boxes and plastic coverings were just as good.

Christmas Eve

We were all ready for Christmas. Lane was wearing his cute little outfit that Grandma Karen had bought him, Grandma Cherie & Grandpa Dennis had been sufficiently hounded so that opening one gift on Christmas Eve was agreed to and everyone was sitting around the tree, impatiently, yet somewhat patiently, waiting.

Uncle Mike was so excited to give Lane his gift... the only problem was that Lane didn't know what to make of the gift. He didn't get that he was supposed to rip the paper and he didn't get that he was supposed to be excited and he didn't get that the whole thing was supposed to be fun and that everyone was watching him for that reason. Poor guy.

He really didn't appreciate the effort Uncle Mike and Auntie Tara put into finding the perfect gift. That is, until he got to sit on it and get pushed around on it and got to hear the music.

And then when he realized he could play with the wrapping paper, all of a sudden life got a whole lot better.
