Lane still likes to harass the dog...
still likes to ride his trike, even if he has to share...
and still likes to make mundane things into toys.

Balancing
One of the new tricks in Lane's collection is balancing.
He has discovered he can stand up on his fire truck.
With no hands. And if he doesn't move his body he can stay there for a decent amount of time.
He also likes walking along the railroad ties that make up my flower bed. He does fall off occasionally, and my lilies are showing the consequences, but for the most part he manages to stay on the ties.

And then he likes to try to jump off at the end. Boys.

Tricycle
Jamie and I had our birthdays last week. This year I asked my husband for a bicycle as the one I had bought for a garage sale price from a friend while I was going to school was hopelessly the wrong size and horribly uncomfortable to ride due to the lack of padding on my derriere. And I'm cheap so I couldn't justify spending the money on myself. Fortunately, my husband likes spending money on me and liked the idea of going for family bike rides with a wife he didn't have to cajole into going.
But this isn't about my bike. I got one. I love it. I love biking with it, for the most part. I've rediscovered muscles I had lost and have been made aware of how out of shape I am. It's been great.
This is about my son's bike. Because he's way cuter than me.
While we were shopping for my bike, my son was getting fed up with the lack of entertainment available to him. He wasn't allowed to pull things off the racks, shelves or rods. He wasn't allowed to touch the bikes lined up like dominoes. The poor guy was grumpy. Until we found this:
The obvious is that we came home with it.
For who could deny these eyes the joy the toy brought?
And besides, don't we all have a soft spot in us for tricycles?
I'm a sucker.

Potatoes
Saskatchewan, especially northern Saskatchewan, can be a fickle place to grow a garden. The weather is never the same two years in a row. This year is no exception as my husband sometimes thinks he's back in North Carolina due to the regularity of rain we are getting. The amount of water we have is problematic for our farming industry, mosquito-free evenings and for many plants that like things on the drier side. However, it is great for a lush lawn, strawberry plants and potatoes.
We have a couple of different varieties of potatoes planted in the garden in our yard. Regardless of the variety, they are doing wonderfully, as in, they are monstrously tall.
Hopefully that means there will be lots of yummy tubers to partake of shortly.

Eating in style
I can't remember the circumstances now, but somehow my son got hold of his sunglasses while he was sitting at the table eating. He tends to like to try to play with things while he eats, much to our chagrin. Unfortunately, he seems to have grown recently so his reach is even more extended... which is good news for the cleanliness of my house as it means I have to become even more diligent at clearing off the table before feeding the child. But, once more, I digress.
Sunglasses.
He ate part of his lunch wearing sunglasses.
And he loved every minute of it.

Until he got bored.

Shoes
As was bound to happen, my son has become fascinated with shoes. Not just any shoes, I might add, but any shoes that are not his. Mom and dad's are the best. Mom has all these funky shoes that he can get his feet into and sort of walk around in but dad's, well, they are just too darn big, clunky and heavy to get anywhere.
Frustrating, really.
But don't worry, the dog understands all the frustrations and is willing to offer whatever sympathy possible.
