And he's off!

Lane started walking this weekend. At first it was just a couple of steps from where I set him down to where I was standing, coaxing him with a toy. But now he can walk halfway across our living room whenever he decides to.

I tried to get a movie of him walking for you but the kid sure moves a lot faster now, especially when he's trying to get something he wants. Like the camera. My apologies on my videographing. I hope you don't get sick.

Glimpses of our days

Lane loves taking a bath. His attention span doesn't last too long but while he is in there he has a blast. His favorite thing to do is to splash. And to drink the water - either straight from the tub or out of one of his toys - he's not picky. But the fun part is to take his diaper off in the living room and tell him it is bath time. He makes a very fast beeline for the tub and impatiently waits for the tub to fill so he can get in and have some fun.

Granny got Lane hooked on frozen blueberries for breakfast while we were in North Carolina. The blueberries we get up here aren't as good as Grandpa Larry's frozen berries but we all pretend we are eating his and then they are okay. Either way, Lane ends up blue in the face. And hands. And sometimes arms.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar is still my favorite book. I was going to say it is Lane's favorite book but I'm not sure how accurate that statement would be. He enjoys listening to the book but Jamie is still convinced it is because of the voices I make, not because of the actual story.

Dishes

I'm trying to do my dishes more regularly these days. It is a process. But I'm getting there. Some days Lane cooperates and lets me get a sinkful done and some days he desperately tries to pull my pants down so that I'll forget about the dishes and pick him up.

The other day I was getting bored and Lane was getting bored and I was doing dishes for the second time that day so I decided that Lane should have a bit of fun. Actually, I thought he might just be happier to see what was happening rather than being stuck on the floor where he's already explored and conquered everything he can.

Well, my son has a bit of a fascination with water.

Have I mentioned how much he likes to splash?

And now he has discovered bubbles.

So, the kitchen carpet got a bit wet, the dog's water got a few soap bubbles in it, my son decided to see what soap bubbles tasted like and I got my dishes done. And had a good giggle. Not a bad way to end the day.

Helping out.

Grandpa Larry's recliner broke. We heard it break in the middle of the night while we were trying to sleep. It was an odd noise. We made funny faces at each other in our room and then went back to sleep. I'm sorry Grandpa Larry.

For the record, I lent you my boys to fix it.

I'm not sure how much help the little one was but he sure did have some fun!

Disclaimer: I'm posting these pictures much to my husband's chagrin. He hates his bedhead.

The car.

Granny was adamant that she was going to bring the car into the house. So she cleaned it up and into the house it came.

And what a hit it was!

Lane loved being pushed around in it but he also loved to push it around. It was a fascinating toy: the horn beeped, the door opened, the key turned and even the gas tank lid flipped open. And it was all on wheels.

And yes, for all you keen observers out there, my BOY is wearing a necklace. Jade made me a pretty pink necklace that Lane insisted on playing with. Unfortunately, it was rather fragile and rather than having him break it while trying to pull it off my neck, I traded him for one that my cousin Allegra made me 10 years ago that has been following me around in my suitcase ever since. He liked the trade and now it is a standard toy in the diaper bag.

North Carolina

A family picture while opening our Christmas gifts:

Granny hosted her first "pizza party"- a good excuse to get the whole family together while we were down. Also a good excuse to get the cameras out to take pictures of the newest/youngest members of the family with the matriarch.

Even though there were piles of snow on the ground the girls still made it down to Granny Ruby's house to play with us. Lane loved chasing Jade and Sara around the house and playing hide-and-seek with them.

Snow

The story goes like this.

We went to Regina/Moose Jaw for two days. We planned on coming home on Saturday. It snowed and snowed and had almost blizzard conditions and the roads in the city were full of snow so all the vehicles were getting stuck. We were in no big rush to get home so we ended up staying until Monday. We drove our 4 hours home to be greeted (in the dark) to about 15 inches of snow. Our driveway was not shovelled, our sidewalk was not shovelled, nothing. It was one big snow drift.

Did I mention that we were supposed to leave on Wednesday to go to North Carolina?

In our 48-hour stop at home, Jamie shovelled and shovelled and shovelled some more:

Our back door had a huge snow drift in front of it. I had to climb over it and dig down to the step so I could open the door without letting the whole drift into the back entryway. (Jamie told me I had to take a picture before I could start digging.)

So, we dug ourselves out (or was it "in") and made our way down to North Carolina. Wanna hear the funny part?

It snowed in North Carolina.
