Party time

Lane's first birthday celebration was with a bunch of adults. It was a party to celebrate Grandpa Larry's 61st birthday, Lane's first birthday and Jamie's boss' 71st birthday. And somehow Lane came out the winner as they all sufficiently showered Lane with gifts and then proceeded to let him be the star of the show.

We discovered that Lane really enjoys birthday cards - he'll read them back to you upside and backwards but with a grin on his face and a twinkle in his eye. He also still seems to have a bit of a fetish for tags...

The next night we had a bunch of families over that had kids similar in age to Lane. We managed to fit 10 adults and 5 kids in our house and we had a blast. It was an odd mix of people as some families we see regularly while others we hadn't seen since our prenatal class last year. We tried to tell people that we were just using Lane's birthday as an excuse to have people over and their presence was Lane's present but most people came bearing gifts! So the kids had fun with all the new toys and the adults had fun visiting. And now I think we have a few invitations to visit that we have to return before we have people over again.

Here is Lane playing with one of his new toys when he didn't have to share it with 4 other kids. While he is able to put the shapes through the appropriate holes, he quickly discovered that it was just as much fun to open up the back and put them directly in.

And the third birthday was with my family Easter weekend. We celebrated Lane's birthday and my mom's birthday. It was a relaxed affair where Lane got spoiled yet again. Oh, to be 1.

For those of you that are shocked that I have no pictures from my child's first birthday, well, I have nothing to say. I have the memories and everyone else has the pictures. Of Lane baffled by the candle. Of Lane crying when his dad blew the candle out. Of his dad quickly relighting the candle in an effort to make his son happy. Of Lane refusing to wear a hat. All the pictures are there - I just don't have 'em.
